So you open a bottle and (gasp!) you can’t finish it. Or you’re like me and have to open several at once to taste. We know it’s blasphemy to throw away good wine. Heck, it’s almost blasphemy to throw away ANY wine. The biggest enemy to wine is air – oxygen. To preserve the wine, something must be done with all that air. So what’s a winelover to do? Here are a few wine hacks and tips to prevent you from having to throw out your nectar of the gods.

The ultimate tool for wine geeks, this one is a bit pricey at around $300 but it’s one of my favorite wine gadgets. I bought it for myself as a Mother’s Day present and have not been disappointed. Have you ever opened a cellar selection that wasn’t quite ready to drink? Or how many times have you just wanted to drink one glass of wine? Or you wanted a glass of red and a glass of white? The Coravin has solved this issue for us. Just insert the needle into the cork of the bottle, extract what you want, and still have the rest of the wine available for a later date. The space of the extracted wine is filled with argon gas to protect the remaining wine. It’s been a life saver when I’ve had several wines to compare and contrast. Just note that it’s for natural corks rather than synthetic ones. There’s also been a rise in restaurants offering “Coravin selections” which give consumers the opportunity to have a glass of premium wine rather than than what’s typically available by the glass. #Winning
