#WICCG? More goodness from the folks in Washington State since it’s Washington State Wine Month. I’ve said before that I don’t do a great deal of Chardonnay, but I also didn’t used to do a lot of brussel sprouts and now I lose my mind behind them! But since the folks on my Twitter chat were focusing on Chardonnay, I thought I’d try to get my hands on a bottle. After chatting it up with my awesome wine guy at the grocery store (and not buying anything else lest The Husband put me and my bottles out) I brought home a bottle of the 2014 Chateau Ste Michelle Indian Wells Chardonnay.

After chilling, I brought my new discovery outside on the front porch to to take a sip. OK, not really. I was there for my picture sweating buckets. Hello?! I live in Texas and it’s hot as heck in August! And yes, I had caramel popcorn for dinner. #DontJudgeMe.

Like a lot of folks, I’d previously had the Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling as it is on a LOT of wine lists. They are pretty much the largest producer of Riesling in the world, but I hadn’t had much else from them. As the oldest winery in the state of Washington, they actually produce quite a few different types of wine. The grapes for this wine are sourced from the Indian Wells Vineyard, which is one of the flagship vineyards for the winery. The Indian Wells Vineyard is part of the Wahluke Slop AVA and is one of the warmest growing regions in the state.

Now I’m still not an over-the-top Chard girl and this won’t go in my regular rotation (as no Chard is) but I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this wine. I’m always afraid of an overly oaked wine, but this one was not. It was a really pretty pale straw yellow with sweet honey and caramel aromas as well as some pineapple. It was very buttery, creamy and quite rich in the mouth balanced by some good acidity and actually wasn’t bad with my caramel popcorn. I also think it would have been fabulous with a crab cake. So if you’re a big Chard fan, I think it’s worth giving this one a try, particularly at the $18 I paid for it. Yes, we drank it all.

Like I said, as someone that’s not a huge Chard fan, I actually liked this one. Cheers!
